If you asking somene phone number in china you could ask their QQ number instead, most of chinese use this IM to communicate, they prefer using QQ than other messanger like YM or MSN. I don’t really know why but surely you can talk to chinese if you had QQ account.

There’s some issue that QQ account can only be use in chinese, nope. QQ is global IM that can use around the world not only chinese, just because it was popular in chinese they said like that.
